I spent a couple years cutting mirrors into tiny squares and gluing them to things. It started in Houston with a show that I did with Mark Flood called "Monstrous Double". I made about 7 mutated mirror balls, making the standard sphere and adding various tumor like growths to it. After finishing that I went to Cal Arts where I concentrated more on video, photography and computer programming. However, during the second year I did a show called Earthquake and Afterlife for which I made three more mirror sculptures, that used motors and did more special effects, which incidentally is how I got into working with electronics. I occasionally put together something combining motors and mirror balls (if nothing else, they make great gifts), but for the most part I'm over it.
I have two videos online of the sculptures in action. The first one is a documentation of a bunch of motorized ones that I had around right after Cal Arts, shot by Liz Hesik. Shot by Liz Hesik and Peter Brinson. Click here to launch video 2 in a new window (also requires quicktime)
