What is a semiconductor

 

1) Silicon doped with an impurity.

2) Silicon doped with phosphorous or arsenic creates a n-type semiconductor with an extra electron.

3) Silicon doped with phosphorous or arsenic creates a p-type semiconductor with an extra electron hole.

4) By combining n-type and p-type semiconductors materials that conduct only under certain conditions can be created.
